Kitten coloring page with a kitten sitting upright and its tail curled around its paws Kitten Sitting Up The kitten children ask for by name: sitting upright, facing straight out, with the tail curled round the front paws in one long unbroken sweep. The body and the tail are the two biggest areas on the sheet, so the easiest shapes are also the first ones a child reaches for. Download Free PDF
Sleeping kitten coloring page with a kitten curled up with its tail around it Sleeping Kitten Curled into a tight circle with the tail sweeping all the way round the body and both front paws folded up under the chin, both eyes shut into two soft curves. The whole animal is one closed shape a crayon can fill on its side, which makes it the bedtime sheet of the collection. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page of a kitten rolling on its back with its paws in the air Kitten Rolling on Its Back On its back with all four paws waving in the air and the head turned to one side so the face still looks out at you. The pale belly is one wide open panel running the length of the page, and a ball has rolled away just out of reach. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten stretching with its back arched Stretching Kitten The full morning stretch: front legs shoved forward with the claws spread, back arched into a hill and hind legs locked straight. A folded blanket rucks up under the front paws, which is the small detail that proves the stretch has real force behind it. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page of a kitten crouched low and about to pounce Pouncing Kitten The half second before the jump, with the back end up, the shoulders dropped almost to the ground, both front paws planted flat and the tail stretched straight out behind as a counterweight. The target is one leaf, which is the joke of the sheet and also its only fiddly shape. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten walking in profile with its tail held up Kitten Walking with Its Tail Up Side on and mid step, with one front paw up and the tail carried straight in the air with a hook at the tip, which is the sign a cat is pleased with itself. A low garden wall of round stones runs along behind and closes the picture off. Download Free PDF
Tabby kitten coloring page with striped fur and an M marking on the forehead Tabby Kitten with Stripes Every stripe is its own closed band, running down the back, wrapping round the legs and ringing the tail, with the tabby M marked on the forehead. A child can colour the stripes one at a time in alternating shades and the pattern still reads correctly. Download Free PDF
Siamese kitten coloring page with a marked face mask, ears, paws and tail Siamese Kitten A Siamese is pale everywhere except four places, so the mask, the ears, the paws and the tail are each outlined as their own enclosed shape. That is four separate decisions handed to the child before a single line of the body is touched. Download Free PDF
Persian kitten coloring page with long fluffy fur and a plumed tail Fluffy Persian Kitten A flat round face almost lost inside the coat, with the fur drawn as dozens of long overlapping tufts and a plumed tail fanned out to one side. It is the sheet to hand a child who likes shading one tuft slightly darker than the next. Download Free PDF
Maine Coon kitten coloring page with tufted ears, a neck ruff and a bushy tail Maine Coon Kitten The biggest kitten in the collection and the one with the most fur: tufted ear tips, a thick ruff round the neck, tufts between the toes and a tail almost as wide as the body. Standing in three quarter view so both the ruff and the tail stay visible. Download Free PDF
Calico kitten coloring page with large patches of fur and a name tag collar Calico Kitten with Patches The coat is broken into big irregular patches, one of them sitting over an eye like a smudge of paint. This is the one sheet in the set where nothing tells the child which patch is which colour, so no two printed copies come back the same. Download Free PDF
Scottish Fold kitten coloring page with folded ears and a very round head Scottish Fold Kitten Both ears folded flat forward against a head so round it is nearly a circle, with huge eyes and short thick legs underneath. Because the ears are down, the head is one enormous uninterrupted area, which is unusual for a breed sheet. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten hugging a ball of yarn with a loose thread Kitten with a Ball of Yarn Both front paws wrapped right around a ball of wool, every strand wound visibly across it, with one loose thread escaping and looping twice over the floor. The kitten is looking down the thread rather than at you, which is where the picture points. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page of a kitten reaching up for a feather wand toy Kitten Chasing a Feather Toy Up on the hind legs with both front paws stretched wide, going for a feather on a string. Every barb of that feather is drawn as its own closed shape, so one small toy carries more separate areas than the whole kitten under it. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten holding a stuffed toy mouse Kitten with a Toy Mouse Caught in the act: crouched over a stuffed mouse held between both front paws, looking straight up as if you had just walked in. The toy has a stitched seam down its back and a curling string tail that trails off across the paper. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten peeping out of a cardboard box Kitten in a Cardboard Box The whole cat is in there somewhere, but all that shows is a head and two paws hooked over the rim. The box gives the sheet its straight lines, with the four flaps folded out and a torn strip of packing tape hanging off one side. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page of a kitten running after a jingle ball Kitten Chasing a Jingle Ball All four paws off the floor at once, chasing a plastic ball with a star cut into its side and a bell rattling inside. Three curved motion lines run behind the ball, and they are the only marks on the sheet that are not part of an object. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten diving into a paper bag Kitten in a Paper Bag Caught halfway out of a paper bag on its side, with a head and two front paws in the open and the back half still inside. The mouth of the bag crumples into big soft folds around the kitten and two paw prints track away across the floor. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten sitting in a woven wicker basket Kitten in a Wicker Basket A kitten looking out over the rim with both paws on the edge, sitting in a basket whose weave is drawn properly as an over and under grid all the way round. The blanket folded over one side is the only soft shape in a sheet made of straight strands. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with three kittens together in one basket Three Kittens in a Basket Three at once in a single oval basket: one sitting up alert, one with its chin flopped over the rim and one asleep in the corner, all under a wide arching handle. The busiest sheet of the collection and the one that teaches a child to keep three coats apart. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a tiny kitten sitting inside a teacup Kitten in a Teacup A kitten small enough to sit inside a teacup, with a head, two paws and one tail tip over the rim and nothing else. The cup carries a band of small repeating flowers, so the china is the detailed half and the animal is the easy half. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten sitting in a flower pot with daisies Kitten in a Flower Pot A kitten that has taken over a terracotta pot, paws hooked over the rim, with three daisies still growing out of the soil beside it and a trowel propped against the side. The pot is one huge simple curve and the daisies are the fine work. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a kitten asleep on a quilted cushion bed Kitten on a Cushion Bed Curled on a padded bed quilted into diamonds, with a ruffle running all the way round the edge and a tail hanging over the side. A food bowl waits on the floor, so the sheet has a second small object for a child who finishes early. Download Free PDF
Spring kitten coloring page with a flower crown, tulips and a butterfly Spring Kitten Among the Flowers A kitten wearing a daisy crown, sitting in among tulips and daffodils with a butterfly settling on the very tip of its nose. The flowers are drawn tall enough to reach past the ears, so the sheet fills from the ground up. Download Free PDF
Summer kitten coloring page with a kitten jumping at butterflies and sunflowers Summer Kitten and the Butterflies Straight up off the ground with both front paws stretched at a scatter of butterflies well out of reach, in front of sunflowers taller than it is. The sun in the corner has straight rays, which gives a child something rigid to colour against all the curves. Download Free PDF
Autumn kitten coloring page with a kitten sitting in a pile of fallen leaves Autumn Kitten in the Leaves Sitting chest deep in fallen leaves with one balanced flat on its head and several more still drifting down past a bare branch. Four different leaf shapes repeat through the pile, so a child can pick a colour per shape and the whole floor still comes out looking like autumn. Download Free PDF
Winter kitten coloring page with a kitten in a knitted scarf and a snowman Winter Kitten in a Scarf A knitted scarf wound twice round the neck with the ribbing actually drawn into the wool and fringe at both ends, worn by a kitten sitting next to a knee high snowman. Six sided snowflakes fall around them, each one built from the same repeated arm. Download Free PDF
Christmas kitten coloring page with a Santa hat, a tree and presents Christmas Kitten A Santa hat with a fluffy bobble, one paw already up to swat at a hanging bauble, and a tree full of decorations behind. Presents with proper ribbon bows are stacked at the foot of the tree and a star sits on the very top. Download Free PDF
Cat and kitten coloring page with a mother cat washing her kitten Mother Cat and Her Kitten The mother lying down mid wash with the kitten tucked under her chin, and her tail curled the whole way round the pair of them so the two animals read as one shape. A fringed rug is folded underneath them both. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with two kittens play wrestling together Two Kittens Playing A wrestling match with no winner: one kitten flat on its back with its paws up, the other standing over it with a paw raised. Their tails cross behind them in an X, and the ball of yarn they started with has been knocked over and forgotten. Download Free PDF
Kitten and puppy coloring page with a cat and a dog sitting side by side A Kitten and a Puppy Two animals built out of opposite shapes sitting shoulder to shoulder: floppy ears and a broad muzzle next to pointed ears and a narrow face. One food bowl in front of them and no argument about it yet. Download Free PDF
Kitten coloring page with a girl holding a kitten in both hands A Girl Holding a Kitten A girl down on her knees holding a kitten against her chest in both hands, with the kitten looking out at you rather than at her. Her hair is in two braids finished with ribbons, and the basket she carried it in sits empty at her feet. Download Free PDF
Easy kitten coloring page for toddlers with very thick simple outlines Easy Kitten for Beginners One big circle, one big oval, two triangles and a curve. The outline is deliberately fat and there is not a narrow gap anywhere on the page, which is what a three year old holding the crayon in a fist actually needs. Download Free PDF
Kitten face coloring page with one giant smiling kitten head Big Kitten Face One face and nothing else, blown up until it touches all four margins. Two huge eyes, a heart shaped nose, a wide smile and three thick whiskers a side. It is the first sheet here a two year old can attempt without help. Download Free PDF
Kawaii kitten coloring page with a chibi kitten and floating hearts Kawaii Kitten Head far too big, body far too small, both eyes shut into happy upward curves and two round blush circles on the cheeks. Three little hearts float around it. The proportions are wrong on purpose, which is the entire point of the style. Download Free PDF
Realistic kitten coloring page with detailed fur and whiskers Realistic Kitten Real feline anatomy, drawn with the coat broken into hundreds of short fur strokes that each close into a shape of their own. The eyes have a pupil and an iris ring, the whiskers are drawn one at a time and every toe is separated. Download Free PDF
Kitten mandala coloring page with rings of petals, paw prints and fish Kitten Mandala A kitten head at the dead centre of a circle, ringed by repeating bands of petals, paw prints, small fish, plain circles and pointed leaves. Colour it ring by ring and it comes out symmetrical, which is what a mandala is for. Download Free PDF
Zentangle kitten coloring page for adults with patterned panels Zentangle Kitten The body cut into panels and every panel given a different filling: stripes here, spirals there, then scales, waves, dots and cross hatching, with a band of small triangles along the ground. The longest sit of the whole collection. Download Free PDF

Search for kitten coloring pages and the same drawing comes back over and over: a circle for a head, two triangles for ears, a smile and three whiskers a side. It is a perfectly good first kitten. It is not thirty-eight of them, and a child who has coloured it twice is done with it.

What makes a kitten worth drawing is what it is doing. Asleep it is a closed circle with the tail wrapped round and the tip tucked under its chin. Mid pounce it is a coiled spring, back end low, shoulders down, both front paws off the floor. Change the coat and it changes again: a tabby is a set of bold bands a child can fill one at a time, a Persian is a mass of long overlapping tufts around a flat face, and a Siamese is pale everywhere except the mask, the ears, the paws and the tail, which is four separate decisions before a single stripe is drawn. So these 38 drawings change the pose, the coat, the toy, the hiding place and the season, instead of changing the size of the same cat.

They fall into seven groups, and the groups exist because a three year old with a fat crayon and a nine year old with fineliners want opposite things from a kitten.

Six poses, from sitting still to mid pounce

The first sheet is the one children ask for by name: a kitten sitting upright, facing out, tail curled neatly round its front paws. After that it curls up asleep in a tight circle, rolls onto its back with all four paws in the air, pushes into a long stretch with its claws spread and its back arched, freezes mid pounce with its tail straight out behind for balance, and finally walks past in profile with its tail straight up and a little hook at the tip.

Six coats, and every coat colours differently

This is the axis that decides what comes out of the pencil case. The tabby has its stripes drawn as separate closed bands down the back, sides, legs and tail, with the M on its forehead. The Siamese has its mask, ears, paws and tail marked off as their own enclosed shapes. The Persian is long overlapping tufts around a flat round face with a huge plumed tail. The Maine Coon has tufted ear tips, a ruff and fur between its toes. The calico is big irregular patches, which is the one sheet in the set where a child gets to choose where each colour goes. And the Scottish Fold has both ears folded flat forward against a very round head.

Six toys, because a kitten alone is a kitten doing nothing

A ball of yarn held in both front paws with a loose thread unwinding twice across the floor. A feather on a stick, every barb its own shape, with the kitten up on its hind legs reaching. A toy mouse with a stitched seam and a string tail. A cardboard box with only a head and two paws showing over the rim. A jingle ball with a star cut into it, rolling fast with motion lines behind. And a paper bag with a kitten climbing out of one end of it.

Five places to curl up

A round wicker basket with the weave drawn as a proper over and under grid. A bigger oval basket with three kittens crowded into it. A teacup on a saucer with a tiny kitten looking over the rim. A terracotta flower pot with daisies growing out of it beside the kitten. And a quilted cushion bed with a ruffled edge and a food bowl on the floor.

A kitten for every season

Spring is a flower crown and a butterfly landing on the nose. Summer is a jump at a scatter of butterflies over sunflowers. Autumn is a deep pile of leaves with one balanced on the kitten's head. Winter is a knitted scarf wound twice round the neck, with the ribbing drawn in, and a small snowman. Christmas is a soft hat, a bauble to bat at and presents under the tree.

Nobody wants to be a kitten on their own

Four sheets with somebody else on them. A mother cat lying down washing her kitten with her tail curled round them both. Two kittens play wrestling, one on its back with its paws up. A kitten and a puppy sitting side by side over one shared bowl. And a girl kneeling with a kitten held carefully in both hands.

Thick lines and fine lines

The two ends of the collection. Two sheets are drawn for small hands: a kitten built from one big circle and one big oval with no narrow gaps anywhere, and an enormous kitten face that touches all four margins. At the other end sit a realistic kitten whose coat is hundreds of separate fur strokes, a mandala with a kitten head at the centre of rings of petals, paw prints and fish, and a zentangle panelled into stripes, dots, spirals, scales and cross hatching.

What age are these kitten coloring pages for?

Three to ten years old. The two beginner sheets use very thick outlines and wide open areas that a three year old can stay inside. The poses, the toys, the baskets and the seasons suit five to eight. The mandala, the zentangle and the realistic fur sheet are fine line work for older children.
