About Us

Class Doodle is a small independent site run by Iris Calder, who kept being asked for "something to keep the children busy that is worth doing". The answer became this site: printable learning activities with drawings on them, free to download, in English and Spanish.

There is no company behind it. One person plans each collection, picks and edits the illustrations, writes the copy in both languages and reads every message that comes through the contact form.

What is on the site

Thirteen collections are live, spread over six sections: tracing, coloring pages, phonics, learning coloring pages, illustrated science and printable templates. The number and letter tracing sheets pair a hollow character with a picture to count or name. The coloring collections cover hearts, ice cream, pumpkins, unicorns, kittens and mermaids, and each one runs from chunky toddler outlines to detailed mandala and zentangle pages for older children. Phonics opens with rhyming worksheets, and science with the solar system.

How each sheet is made

A sheet starts with the task, and the drawing is chosen to carry it. On a counting page the objects to count are the picture. On a letter page the drawing names something that begins with that letter. On a coloring page the outlines are thick enough for a crayon and the spaces big enough for a small hand.

The artwork is converted to clean vector lines and placed on a US Letter page. Before a sheet goes live its finished PDF is opened and checked: the drawing has to be inside the file, nothing may run off the edge, and the lines must stay dark on a cheap black and white printer. A sheet that fails is redrawn or dropped.

Most sheets carry no instruction line and no name box, because the instructions live on the web page. The only text on a coloring or tracing sheet is a small grey caption along the bottom with the sheet's title and the site name. Worksheets that need a direction, such as the rhyming and solar system activities, print one short line at the top.

Two languages, two sets of files

Every sheet has a Spanish PDF of its own, with the caption printed in Spanish. Some collections change more than the caption. The alphabet sets include Ñ, and the Spanish rhyming sheets are built on Spanish pairs such as gato and pato, because English rhymes stop rhyming once they are translated.

Who this site is for

Parents, teachers, grandparents, homeschoolers, librarians and therapists. Everything is free for personal and classroom use: see the licensing policy for the details, or write to us if your case is not covered there. Corrections are welcome too. If a sheet has a mistake, say which one and it will be fixed.
