How to Print

Getting a clean print every time, with paper and scaling tips.

Every Class Doodle sheet is a PDF laid out on US Letter paper. It prints in under a minute on a home or school printer, and A4 works as well with one setting changed.

Step by step

  1. Open a collection and click "Download PDF" under the sheet you want. There is no sign-up and no email to give.
  2. Open the file in your browser or PDF reader and press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Cmd+P (Mac).
  3. On US Letter paper, set the scale to 100% or "Actual size". On A4, choose "Fit to page" or "Shrink oversized pages". Every sheet keeps a white margin, so the drawing stays whole either way.
  4. Black and white is fine. Most drawings are black line art. The alphabet coloring pages add a little red and purple, which print as grey and still work.

Which way up

Number tracing, letter tracing and the count-and-circle sheets are landscape. Everything else, including every coloring page, is portrait. Most print dialogs read the orientation from the PDF. If yours shows the sheet sideways, set Orientation to Auto.

Two-page files and packs

The rhyming worksheets and six of the solar system activities are two pages long: the worksheet, then the same page with the answers filled in. To keep the answers for yourself, type 1 in the Pages box and print only the first page. The solar system worksheet pack runs to 21 pages and the planet coloring pack to 15, so check the page range before you send a whole pack to the printer.

Paper tips

  • Ordinary copy paper (75-90 g/m2) is right for tracing, counting and writing practice.
  • Cardstock (160-200 g/m2) pays off for the cut-and-paste rhyming cards, the star and snowflake templates, and anything that will hang on a wall.
  • Slip a tracing sheet into a plastic pocket or laminate it, and a child can trace it with a dry-erase marker again and again.
  • For felt tips, use paper a little heavier than copy paper so the color does not bleed through.
  • Printing a class set? Print one copy first and check it before you print thirty.

Something looks cut off?

Check that scaling is not set to a custom percentage and that the paper size in the dialog matches the paper in the tray. If a sheet still prints wrong, tell us which one it was and what printer you used.
